On Saturday, November 7th at noon, the annual tradition of putting up a Warming Hut in the Marvine Campground continues, for the 10th year! Beginning in 2010, the first Warming Hut was a tent donated by Sable Mountain Outfitters and provided a destination for cross country skiers and snowshoers to meet and take a scenic break. Since then, the Warming Hut has been upgraded to a Yurt provided by Raw Gear and includes a stove to warm up to, tables, chairs, and snacks all donated by volunteers.

Raising or putting up the yurt each fall is an event led by the clubs yurt master, Roy. Each year he manages to make the yurt come together with the community of volunteers who show up to learn how it is done. We make a fun time of it providing a lunch – Biscuits & gravy and whatever else is brought to share. (It is an outdoor event allowing for social distancing.) All are welcome in this venture so hope you will join us this year on November 7th!

The Marvine Trail

Yurt Raising in Meeker

The White River Nordic Council, a community of skiers and snowshoers, created a fun 2 1/2 mile trail to the Warming Hut. The Marvine Trail is groomed and permitted by the White River Snowmobile Club (USFS permits) for the public to enjoy throughout the winter months. There are even bathrooms located nearby. The club makes sure the trail is groomed and plans special events including a moonlight ski during the full moon each month. The Meeker Recreation Center supports the winter sports and has snowshoes available for free rental.

Visit Meeker this Winter

See this unique Yurt and enjoy the scenic beauty of the White River National Forest! Visit Meeker to pack a to-go lunch and travel on Co Rd 8 for 28 miles to Co Rd 12 crossing the bridge at Fritzlan’s. At Fritzlan’s corner turn left and go approx 3 miles toward the Marvine Campground. The trail head begins where the snow plowing has ended. Our snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling offer winter adventure for everyone, and we are less crowded than many other winter attractions!
