The White River

The people who come to the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials are like family. They are loyal to not only the sheepdogs but to the community that hosts the Trials every year.  Meeker is still planning to welcome everyone with open arms, even though the Trials have been postponed until September, 2021.

History

Learn about the tumultuous history of Meeker in the White River Museum. Then, take a drive through the countryside on a historic loop that takes you past the first rural school site and ends near the historic Milk Creek Battlefield.

View the Rio Blanco County War Veterans Memorial, titled “Sacrifice and Resolution” on the courthouse lawn. This is the first modern soldier sculpture in Colorado, and received a 2014 Governor’s Awards for Downtown Excellence for ”Best Small Town Public Project”.

Wild Horses

Experience a wild horse viewing adventure with the herds likely to be found on the top of Cathedral Bluffs (CR 103) in the late summer and early fall.

Scenery

Lose yourself in the beauty of the White River Valley and Ripple Creek Pass. The Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway is one of 26 of the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways.

View the fall colors from a backwoods trail in the National Forest. Try out one of our OHV rental businesses in Meeker, both easily located along Market Street, the main town thoroughfare.

Golfing

Play golf and view wildlife at the Meeker Golf Course.  This is a unique and challenging 9-hole course host to birds, mule deer, a resident beaver, and a fox that loves to steal golf balls!
