If you want breathtaking photos, this is the spot for you. Located a short drive from town, South Fork Canyon is an easy way to get great views. 

  • Lost Solar Trail follows the course of the South Fork of the White River for 16 miles 
  • Located 30 miles east of Meeker along the Flat Tops Scenic Byway
  • Campground, Picnic area, vault toilets
  • Numerous deep fishing holes: Rainbow trout, Cutthroat
  • Wildlife viewing: Elk, Moose, Mule deer, Bighorn sheep (if lucky).
  • Deep canyon walls
  • Seasonal opening, but can snowshoe, cross country ski road in the winter months.

If you want the great outdoors, we got the great outdoors! Visit Trappers Lake, known as the “Cradle of Wilderness.” This iconic 302 acre lake inspired the wilderness movement – our country’s commitment to keep pristine nature areas untouched by machines and development. For those willing to make the drive out there, this location offers unparalleled immersion in nature. 

  • Located in Flat Tops Wilderness Area – no motorized equipment – restrictions apply
  • Located 50 miles from Meeker on a combination of paved & unpaved road on the Flat Tops Scenic and Historic Byway. Drive time is about 1 ½ hours. 
  • Hike 5.5 miles around the lake on the Carhart Trail – named after Arthur Carhart, instrumental in the Wilderness act of 1964.
  • Largest natural lake in the Flat Tops Wilderness
  • Fish: Colorado Native Cutthroat Trout  – fishing restrictions
  • Fish: Trappers inlet and outlets are home to many brookies.. Fishing restrictions 
  • Seasonal access: Usually Memorial to early November, depending on snowfall.
  • The Chinese Wall (nearly 2000 ft wall) rises around the lake. 
  • Fishing, Picnicking, Hiking, Paddle Boarding, Rowing boats, Canoes. 
  • Photography opportunities are endless
  • No camping, campfires within ¼ mile of lake
  • Wildlife:  Moose, Elk, Mule deer, variety of water fowl and bird life.
